9th November 2019 marks the historic day for the Sikh Community especially for the Sikhs living in India. The idea of Kartarpur Corridor was first presented by the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajwa during his visit to Lahore in 1999. Today, finally this idea put into practice. Kartarpur Corridor joins the Indian part Dera Baba Nanak and Pakistan’s part Kartarpur Narowal which are at a distance of 450 kilometers.

Kartarpur Gurudwara is the place of the founder of Sikhism Guru Baba Nanak Sahib who spent almost 18 years of his life in this area. Therefore, this place is considered a pilgrimage for the Sikh who comes from different corners of the world to visit this sacred and holy site.

Though the idea of the corridor was given by long ago and it was presented again and again by various political bodies from both sides of the border, but every time some constraint couldn’t make it happen. Recently, this idea was pointed when the former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Pakistan in August 2018 on the eve of Prime Minister Imran khan’s swearing-in ceremony. Afterward, in September 2018 this Rahradri (corridor) was officially announced.

Pakistan has furnished this complex project Kartarpur Gurudwara within just 10 months. A project which was huge enough to be completed in 3-4 years. Moreover, Kartarpur Gurudwara has made world record as being the largest Gurudwara in the world.

Kartarpur Corridor has made the Indian Sikh pilgrimage easier. The people will not need a visa to visit. All they need is the issue of Immigration ID card. Together with this, pilgrims will also be charged $20. Through this corridor, pilgrims will come from Dera Baba Nanak in the morning and will return on the evening from Kartarpur Gurudwara. Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated Kartarpur Rahdari on 9th November. In this inauguration ceremony, former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Sigh, Navjot Singh Sidu and Indian actor Sunny Deol were also presented. Imran Khan in his speech welcomed Sikh Pilgrims and congratulated Pakistan for the completion of this complex project within a short span of time.

By opening this corridor, Pakistan has once again portrayed the message of Peace and facilitated religious devotees by eliminating geographical boundaries
