Plastic pollution is not just an oceans issue. It’s a climate issue and it’s a human health issue. We all are aware of the consequences of plastics in our environment, in the oceans and on land. However, beyond the visible pollution of our habitats, plastics are having a great impact on the climate too. According to recent research, plastics account for 3.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. As the countries are developing, industrialization and modernization has increased the production and use of plastics. Today, you can hardly look around you and not spot some item that is made entirely from plastic or has some plastic ingredient. Plastics have become an essential of products and packaging, though they offer numerous benefits, plastics originate as fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gases. About 99% of goes into the plastic is fossil fuel. The plastic industry is the 2nd largest source of industrial greenhouse gas emissions. In 2019, researchers estimate that the production of plastics will contribute more than 850 million tons of greenhouse gases.

Getting rid of plastic waste is our primary environmental problem. It is likely impossible to eliminate plastic from our lives, but there are certain steps that could be taken to help reduce the amount that we are using. We all need to work on this at the individual level to make a difference instead of focusing on the collective role. Small steps made by individuals can make a huge difference in helping us to create a sustainable environment.

Sukkur IBA University has been playing a leading role since long in the environmental preservation and sustainability, protecting natural resources and focusing on environmental management. The "Go Green" society of Sukkur IBA University has taken numerous steps to protect our natural habitat. Taking different initiatives and awareness sessions about the environmental preservation. Recently Go Green society organized an awareness session about plastic pollution and its impacts on our lives and our habitat. The different issues caused by plastic usage were addressed. The guidance was given about how to solve such problems as being responsible individuals of society and promoting healthy practices that help us in the sustainability of the environment. The audience also took an oath to reduce plastic usage and wastage. Sukkur IBA University has completely banned the usage of plastic bags on the campus. The cloth bags were distributed among the audience at the end of the session to make a huge difference at a small level. These small steps leave a great impact and help us to solve the ever-growing problems of society and our environment
