HEC and Huawei Technologies Pakistan Have Decided to Hold the 4th ICT Competition in Pakistan

It is rightly said that

“The science of today is the technology of tomorrow”.

 In the era of technology, technological literacy has become the main concern for survival. Thus, various countries are continuously taking initiatives to boost up technological competencies. In this connection, to promote technological talent, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Huawei Technologies Pakistan have decided to hold the 4th ICT Competition in Pakistan to promote the ICT industry’s technology certification and develop local ICT talent and ecosystem.

 For the launch of this competition, a meeting was held with Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, Acting Executive Director HEC and Gaoweijie, Managing Director Huawei Technologies Pakistan at the HEC Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Naiz Ali Shahrukh, Director Huawei Public and Corporate, and other officials from both sides.

Moreover, after the meeting Dr. Marri announced to establish eight new Huawei ICT Academies in addition to upgrading the existing four ICT academies. He also appreciated the collaboration between HEC and Huawei. He further hoped that the competition will further strengthen the bilateral efforts for the promotion of ICT. He termed Huawei’s collaboration with HEC in the fields of 5G and artificial intelligence a vital step forward.

After getting the huge success of 3rd ICT competition in 2018 by the securing the 2nd position by Pakistani students among 147 students from 30 countries, this year competition is expected to be communicated to wide range of people to motivate them for participation. For this sake, Huawei will focus on holding awareness seminars, workshops and preliminary rounds of this year’s competition while collaborating with Pakistan’s 14 ICT Academies. It will also arrange visits to 50 universities for marketing and roadshows.

This year, over 11,000 students from reputable universities are expected to register themselves for the online test. It is expected that 7,000 students will take the preliminary test, out of which 500 students will appear for the online preliminary examination.
The procedure of selecting top 6 students starts from the selection of the top 150 students will take the lab and interview examinations. In addition to the certifications and prizes, the top six students will be selected for the international finals to be held at Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

The ICT competition will help enhance the quality of future ICT professionals in Pakistan, in addition to increasing national ICT competitiveness and supporting local students across the country.
Not only to country, but this competition is also favorable for the participants for the number of reasons. Firstly, local technological/ICT talent will be taken on national scales to solve complex national challenges. Secondly, students will gain valueable experience in industry by working in real laboratories by using advanced IP and IT technology. Thirdly, this competition tests contestants on their knowledge of AI, 5G, cloud computing, switching, routing, and network security. Fourthly, international exposure to the top six students at Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China where finale of competition will take place. The competition participants will gain unrivaled exposure to Huawei’s expertise in telecommunication, enterprise, and consumer business.
